At the annual Ceremony of Twelve, Jonas is chosen for something special as his life assignment. This leads him to The Giver, a man who holds all the memories of the past. Through this man, Jonas learns the terrible truth about the society in which he lives. Given his lifetime assignment at the Ceremony of Twelve, Jonas becomes the receiver of memories shared by only one other in his community and discovers the terrible truth about the society in which he lives.
